Salvatore Di Mauro Set to be Judge

Salvatore Di Mauro has been named this year’s judge for the redeveloped Noosa Regional Gallery Travelling Scholarship which now focuses solely on 3D art.

Senior Lecturer in Design at Griffith University, Di Mauro is a highly acclaimed sculptor and recipient of multiple art and design awards. With a number of artworks displayed locally and across the world, Di Mauro has great insight into the impact of manipulating three-dimensional mediums and understands the impact and recognition that winning such an award can bring for an artist.

Presented by the Sunshine Coast Council and Principal partner, Friends Noosa Regional Gallery Inc. the purpose of the Travelling Scholarship is to enable the winner to undertake study or training interstate or overseas. This may be through a recognised art institution, participation in short-term workshops or study with a nominated artist.

Forty finalists will be selected from entries submitted to a pre-selection panel. The finalist exhibition will be held at the Noosa Regional Gallery from 29 July - 29 August 2010.

Australian artists, designers and craftspeople working in any 3D medium are encouraged to take advantage of this unique opportunity and have until 31 May to submit their entries. There are three categories available to enter including Open, Tertiary and Secondary.

The winner of the Open category will receive $12,000 plus a solo exhibition at the Noosa Regional Gallery within 18 months of the scholarship being awarded.

The additional student prizes of Tertiary and Secondary are exclusive to Sunshine Coast students and have respective prize money of $2000 and $1000 scholarships.

There will also be a People’s Choice Award where members of the public can vote for their favourite artist. The winner of this award will be announced 20 August 2010.

Entries close on 31 May and a $25 entry fee applies for the open category and $10 for tertiary and secondary students.
